City of San Diego Issuing New COVID-19 Rules for Construction

The City of San Diego is issuing new guidance for all construction, public and private, within City limits. The draft rules, which can be found HERE, will be finalized tomorrow and enforced starting on Monday. AGC San Diego and several San Diego County construction associations met virtually with City staff to discuss these rules and their implementation.

Key aspects of the new rules include the following:

  • COVID-19 Supervisor – contractors must designate a site-specific supervisor to implement the comprehensive COVID-19 exposure control plan. This supervisor role can be designated to existing project personnel and must always be present on the construction site during construction activities.
  • All workers and visitors are required to wear face coverings while performing their work.
  • Contractors will be encouraged to increase the number of restrooms available to workers and the frequency of cleaning restroom facilities.
  • The City recommends temperature readings as a screening tool for workers and visitors coming on site.

City inspectors will be directed to enforce and comply with these protocols to protect the health and safety of workers, and the general public while keeping projects underway.
